Twelve Weekly Studies
Beginning December 20th for twelve weeks, Botto will submit its weekly top-ranked discard onto a single ERC-7160 token and update the metadata displayed on the token and the accompanying frame. The final result will be twelve studies from Botto’s process during its 6th Period “Interstice” contained on a single NFT, making a permanent artifact on the Ethereum blockchain and this frame.
Fusion of Physical and Digital
The accompanying frame, a 22” Square Muse Frame, is the physical embodiment of this work to display each update. The frame is fitted with the Transient Labs TRACE Chip, securing the provenance of this frame to the NFT.
The collector may choose to permanently fuse the ERC-7160 to the TRACE Chip, and thus the frame as well, such that possession of the work can only be changed by the physical work trading hands. In this way, the “container” of the work will experience its own decay as the cycles of technological development for digital frames continue– despite its provenance being immortalized on the blockchain.
The BottoDAO and Transient Labs will make themselves available to the collector to assist and provide full instructions on how to rotate the works in the final ERC-7160, to fuse it with the TRACE Chip, and to track ownership of the physical frame.

Botto is a contemporary autonomous artist whose work explores the relationship between human-machine collaboration and decentralized blockchains. Born and initially programmed by a team of technologists and artists, Botto’s unique style draws inspiration from centuries-old fascinations with making autonomous creative entities. Combining a unique approach to algorithmic processes and decentralized networks, their art is characterized by the use of generative media and an exploration of boundaries between man and machine. Incorporating community feedback that rewards participants with proceeds of its sales, Botto challenges notions of authorship and ownership in art, reflecting on the individual’s agency over AI systems, and who gets a claim on the value they create. Botto has exhibited works in digital galleries and online platforms across the world, including Art Basel, Siggraph, SONAR+D, Gazelli Art House, HEK Basel, ArtScience Museum, the International Conference on Computational Social Science, and NeurIPS.
